A STORY:
In 2013, State Representative Jim Buchy joined with Ohio FFA, The Ohio Department of Education and The Ohio State University Extension to promote agriculture education in the city. Extending more agriculture education opportunities, increases student attainment and opens up career pathways for students to gain employment in Ohio’s number one industry.
For those college bound, a sister program was created at Central State University to prepare educators who will be able to continue educating the next generation. The 1890 Land Grant institution is growing an agriculture program with a focus on ag teachers and extension educators prepared for instruction in the city and throughout Ohio.
Since the beginning, the agriculture education has advocated for support of agriculture in the city. As a result of efforts by Representative Buchy, members of the board and partners, the important concept of agriculture education in the city, has not only taken root it has become part of the common discussion in the agriculture community and the city communities that benefit from learning about food production.
